5 Benefits of Yoga

Previously, we’ve given some ideas on how you can prepare for your yoga classes. Here is a follow up article, which outlines 5 benefits which arise as a result of doing yoga.

1. Stress Reliever

Do you feel tense? Feeling tense in your body can be a sign of being mentally worn out. Yoga allows you to let all that stress out. You can reduce your stress levels by adopting the correct stretching and breathing techniques. In addition, it assists in reducing your heart rate,  blood pressure and helps to ease feelings of depression, fatigue and anxiety.

2. Increased flexibility

Perhaps the most obvious benefit- yoga helps you to loosen up and stretch your muscles in order to increase your flexibility. It is normal to walk into a class feeling highly inflexible. However, given time you will find that your posture improves and the body feels a lot less restricted

3. Better concentration

Ask yourself this question, do you find it easy to concentrate on tasks? If you can’t, yoga can help with this. When you’re doing a single thing (say, a yoga pose), you do it nice and slow and acknowledge what is happening at that particular moment. In addition, when you focus on one thing at a time, it helps you to focus. Little things such as breathing and moving your body trains you to focus on the moment and fully concentrate on the required task at hand. This means that you stay more focused when you’re working or more ‘in tune’ spending time with the ones you care about

4.  Improved strength

Surprised? You shouldn’t be! Regularly practicing yoga builds strength-mentally and physically. Your muscles become stronger and longer, and you will walk a spring in your step. Mentally, you will be able to focus for a lot longer, which assists in building up stamina and endurance. You’ll be thankful for these when tough times arise!

5. Better posture

When you become a lot more stronger and a little more flexible, it helps to develop your posture. Given that a lot of individuals sit in front of a computer or are constantly walking, yoga is an excellent way to develop a stronger core. A better core means that it helps you to sit and stand correctly. Besides, yoga helps you become more aware about your body, so it helps you notice if you’re slouching or slumping in your seat, so that you can correct your posture immediately
